Jesse went to Rockdale, TX, to photograph the closed Alcoa plant (the town’s one time financial lifeline) along with the players that worked to bring the world’s largest bitcoin mining facility, Bitmain, to the community. Bitmain had promised to create between 400 and 600 jobs, but when only 30 new jobs were created, Rockdale learned a lesson about the elusive promise of virtual currency

Photographer Jesse Rieser for Society Magazine

Published in French magazine Society’s “America” issue, Jesse’s photo essay depicts a Latino neighborhood plagued by “The Serial Street Shooter” while serving as a metaphor for issues in American policy and politics: a lack of immigration reform, racial inequity, a shrinking middle class, community policing dysfunction, a lack of mental healthcare and quotidian gun violence. This work was also a winner in the American Photography Annual, featured in Buzzfeed, Fast Company, Feature Shoot, and The Daily Mail, along with being exhibited at the Houston Center of Photography.

Jesse Rieser photographed the Star Geezers for condor Airlines

Jesse photographed this condor Airlines project on location at the Sky Village. Sky Village is an astronomy centric retirement community in Portal, Arizona, which sits under some of the darkest skies in the United States and offers a perfect setting for astronomers. Founded by Jack and Alice Newton, the retirees are known as the “Star Geezers.” Images from this shoot were also featured in Vice, BOOOOOOOM and FishEye Magazine and will appear in an upcoming issue of Frankfurter Allgemeine Quarterly.
