This work is part of an on-going project about the sugar cane crop produced at the The Evergreen Plantation. In this series, Rush documented the centuries old process of hand planting which takes over a month and a half to complete. The next series will focus on the harvest and processing.
Known for his classic and realistic photography style, Rush Jagoe was born and raised in the beautiful state of Kentucky. He grew up loving to hunt and fish and being part of nature. To document his surroundings, he eventually started bringing his Mother’s camera with him. Photographing the living history in the strip mines of Western Kentucky instilled in him a love of visual story-telling.
When Rush moved to New Orleans (where he now calls home), he began working as a photojournalist primarily for The Wall Street Journal. After realizing that shooting advertising and editorial assignments would open up and demand more creativity from his narrative work, Rush expanded his client base. His documentary photography background is apparent in his commitment to authentic work.
Rush’s clients include Saveur, Southern Living, Food & Wine, More Magazine, The Kellogg Foundation, Garden & Gun, and Proctor & Gamble.
In 2013, Photo District News named Rush one of their 30 New and Emerging Photographers to Watch.
